Flipnote Hatena = Newgrounds Without The Blam

Hey there. I'm killian. First time blogger, so feel free to leave angry hater comments on how terrible/pointless this may or may not be.

But enough pointless introductions that nobody actually reads.

On August 14, 2009 an app for the nintendo dsi was released. It allowed users to create moving pictures, add sound and then publish it. (Que the name "Flipnote Studio") I remember hearing about this app 2 months prior the release date and being estatic. So it was a rip-off of flash, but goddamnit it seemed like a good quality rip-off. So I waited anxiously, slightly jealous that the japenise were already playing it due to them getting everything 2 months in advance.
And so the day finally came. I looked through dsi ware and downloaded it post-haste. Everything seemed perfect. Frogs danced across the starting screen. Everything was there; create flipnote, view flipnote and... flipnote hatena? I'd forgotten that they would have added an online feature. A place to share our flipnotes worldwild seemed like a great idea. You could upload your flipnote and other people could give stars depending on how good it is. What could possibly go wrong?

Murphys law states "Anything that can go will wrong, will go wrong" and hatena was no exception. Without a few weeks hundreds of spam flipnotes were submited. "Well thats ok," you may say, "Surely hatena has some way of getting rid of the spam?"

Nope.

"Does hatena have any control over what gets submitted?"

None.

And the worst thing is, people star the spam more than the actual quality flipnotes.
An animation I spent about 4-5 hours on gets 5 stars, yet a photo collection someone put together in 5 seconds gets about 1000.

Moral of the story: Sex appeal > Hard work.
